Web 2.0 Tools

This is an overview of the different Web 2.0 tools you can use to support and enrich your Blog or Wiki:

PDF Catalogues

Still in betaware, this has the potential to be an awesome file sharing program. It allows you to upload, download, tag and share your PDF files. Like Blogs and Wiki's you can control who can view, download, share and upload PDF files. This system in its betaware form, offers more security than its picture and video cataloging peers.

Pedagogical Uses:

- Database of downloadable resources

- Sharing of critical files & correspondence

- Storing and integrating PowerPoint slide presentations into your Blog

Picture Catalogues

Flickr or Picasa

These are online picture (jpeg, gif & png) cataloguing programs. They allow you to upload, tag and share your photos. Like Blogs and Wiki's you can control who can view, download, share and upload pictures.

Pedagogical Uses:

- Folder of images relevant to the course or topic

- Students can upload relevant pictures

- Exemplars of quality work

- Students in action (consider ethical/privacy issues!)

- Create a slideshow of pictures on your blog

- Use as a file server of large pictures needed for your blog or by students for course work

Video Catalogues

Uptube, Teachertube, Ourmedia

These are online video (accepts most video format & converts to flv) cataloguing programs. They allow you to upload, tag and share your videos. Like Blogs and Wiki's you can control who can view, share and upload videos.

Pedagogical Uses:

- View course relevant videos created by you and others in your blog

- Student project to plan, create and publish video online

- Exemplars of quality work

- Students in action (consider ethical/privacy issues!)

- Create "How to" Video's

Audio Catalogues

Blogamp, Itunes, Ourmedia

These are online audio (mp3, wma) cataloguing programs. They allow you to upload, download, tag and share your audiocasts. Like Blogs and Wiki's you can control who can view, download, share and upload audiocasts.

Pedagogical Uses:

- Listen /download course relevant audiocasts created by you and others in your blog

- Student project to plan, create and publish audiocasts online

- Exemplars of quality work

- Students in action (consider ethical/privacy issues!)

- Create "How to" Audiocast's

n.b. They are not Podcasts the term "Podcasts" is the creation of Apple Computers Inc" Audiocasts are truly about sharing and community! Podcasts are about Apple Control!

** Be warned ITUNES will HIJACK ALL audio and visual files converting them to Itunes formats. Thus removing their intended ability to be shared, copied and used as the user desires. Itunes transfers all control of your audio/visual files to Apple Computers inc!
